Summary: | This research aimed to 1) investigate condition, problem and needs in activity
arrangements of general education for creative problem solving of students in higher
education, 2) develop general education learning activities to enhance creative problem
solving of students in higher education. Samples in this research were 3 social study
instructors, 81 undergraduate students who enrolled in Man and Society course, 5 experts
in education learning activities to enhance creative problem solving and 42 political science
students. Research instruments were an instructor interview form, a student comment survey
form, an evaluation for learning activities to enhance creative problem solving, and creative
problem solving lesson plans.
Research results indicated that 1) in all aspects of teaching and learning arrangement
of general education condition is at a moderate level while problems in all aspects were at
a high level and needs of learning activities to enhance creative problem solving existed.
Learning and instruction activities required more apparent steps and goals, stimulation on
awareness of problems, focus on authentic practice, interaction between learners-andlearners
and teachers-and-learners for cooperative learning, clear designation of learner
and teacher roles, learning achievement self-reflection, encouragement on learners focus,
variety of idea presentation under teacher guidance, adequate amount of learning
equipment and media with supportive, free, and respectful learning environment; and
2) learning activities for general education to enhance creative problem solving for students
in higher education consisted of 6 elements; namely, element 1 – principle, concept and theoretical background of learning activity arrangement, element 2 – objectives, element 3 –
learning activity arrangement process, element 4 – social system, learner roles, teacher role,
element 5 – feedback, communication, and interaction and element 6 – supportive system of
media, equipment and learning resources and direct and indirect learning outcome. Five steps
in learning arrangement included of accessing to problems, searching for problem solving
methods, selecting problem solving method, planning and acting, reflecting and evaluating
problem solving result. The learning and instruction model was at high level appropriateness. |
