The population of this research was students grade VII SMP Negeri Satu Atap Merjosari Malang. The research samples were VII-A and VII-C class. The data collection technique used short story arrangement test, observation, and interview. Instrument validity used in this research are content validity. Reliability test was conducted with alpha cronbach. The result calculation shows the reliability value is in a number of 0,902 > from coefficient 0,6. The data analysis technique was conducted by using T-test technique by considering homogenity and normality terms. The result shows that the lowest score in control group that was 15, the highest score was 25, and mean 20,67. Meanwhile, the lowest score in experimental group that was 21, the highest was 32, and mean 27,73. It shows that there was significant difference of ability in arranging short story between control group and experimental group. T-test score result of pretest and posttest in experimental group was in the value of –tcount< -ttable (-11,599 < -2,048). According to the result, Hypnoteaching technique affect the short story arrangement learning in grade VII.   Keywords: Effect, Hypnoteaching technique, short story arrangement ability.   Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji pengaruh teknik Hypnoteaching terhadap kemampuan menyusun cerpen siswa kelas VII. Penelitian ini merupakan jenis penelitian kuantitatif dengan ancangan eksperimen semu dan menggunakan Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri Satu Atap Merjosari Malang. Sampel penelitian adalah kelas VII-A dan VII-C. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan tes menyusun cerpen, observasi, dan wawancara. Validitas instrumen yang digunakan adalah validitas isi. Uji reliabilitas dilakukan dengan koefisien alpha cronbach. Hasil perhitungan menunjukkan nilai reliabilitas 0,902 > dari koefisien 0,6. Teknik analisis data dilakukan menggunakan teknik uji-t dengan memerhatikan syarat normalitas dan homogenitas. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pada kelompok kontrol skor terendah yang didapatkan siswa 15, skor tertinggi 25, dan mean 20,67. Sementara itu, pada kelompok eksperimen skor terendah yang didapatkan siswa 21, skor tertinggi 32, dan mean 27,73. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan kemampuan menyusun cerpen yang signifikan antara kelompok kontrol dan eksperimen. Hasil uji-t skor pretest dan posttest kelompok eksperimen menghasilkan nilai thitung < -ttabel (-11,599 < 2,048).
