Summary: | Assuming that education must be understood in its dynamic relationship with the social structure, this paper analyzes the evolution of the Cape Verde education system in three different socio-historical periods: colonial, post-independence and democratic transition period. The conclusions presented are the results of do cumentary and bibliographic research and the analysis of official government statistics of the Ministry of Education and the National Institute of Statistics, as a part of the PhD thesis in Educational Sciences, presented at the Department of Theory and History of Education and Social Pedagogy at the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain.
