Description
Summary:The purpose of the article is to study the peculiarities of folklore symphonyism in L. Kolodub’s orchestral creativity through the musicological analysis of the chamber string cycle “Seven Ukrainian folk songs”. The research methodology consisted in the application of the comparative, historical-logical and theoretical methods. This methodological approach allowed for analyzing the chamber cycle through the prism of  Lev Kolodub’s individual way of creative thinking and the stylistic features of using folk melodies in Ukrainian musical culture. The scientific novelty of the work lies in revealing characteristic stylistic features and author’s methods of rethinking folklore in L. Kolodub’s orchestral creativity through the musicological analysis of the chamber string cycle “Seven Ukrainian folk songs” and in the development of the fundamental problem of Ukrainian musicology – “composer and folklore”. Conclusions. L. Kolodub, using  in the cycle both quotes from folk songs and his own melodies, which were close to the original source, created a piece of music in which folklore acquires profound philosophical content and reproduces the mental level of the Ukrainian nation. The symphonyism of folk music in this opus takes place due to the stylistic transformation of the forming elements of national musical folklore, such as melody, harmony, rhythm, texture and others.
