Summary: | This essay proposes a methodological reading on the First book - The warrior technology, from the work of Florestan Fernandes, “The social function of war in the Tupinambá Society”. For the construction of ethnographic writing, Florestan seeks to enhance the literature produced on the Tupinambá, the dissertation and thesis (directed by Fernando Azevedo) on the Tupinambá were ethnographic studies from purely historiographic sources (reports by chroniclers and travelers to “Brazil” XVI and XVII centuries), a method not widely used in Sociology and Anthropology that see ethnography as “I was there”. Florestan's thesis was dedicated to professors and ethnologists Herbert Baldus and Roger Bastide (members of the thesis defense panel). Sherry Ortner in the year 2006 defined theory as the series of "thought structures" - including concepts, metaphors and narratives that provide interpretive structures to make sense of the evidence. Florestan characterized in notes the analysis of the reports of the chroniclers and travelers, always critical, trying to verify that they do not contradict themselves and the historical context of each work and author (literary character, order, government report, etc.). The interest in composing this essay is to give visibility to the theoretical and methodological discussions present in the work of Florestan Fernandes that can contribute to the debate in Social Sciences and related areas. |
