Objectives: To evaluate orthodontic appliance association on gingival hyperplasia and examine a maintenance protocol to manage it. Materials and methods: A case of a healthy 26-yr-old male presenting with maxillary and mandibular chronic inflammatory gingival enlargement associated with prolonged orthodontic therapy was examined. The patient has no prior history of gingival enlargement before orthodontic treatment. A strict maintenance protocol was followed along with patient’s oral hygiene instruction and motivation. Results: A significant improvement of gingival tissue health observed in terms of color, consistency and texture. Conclusion: Local irritation in combination with bacterial plaque is mainly causing gingival hyperplasia in presence of orthodontic appliance. Proper home oral hygiene and in office care can reduce the possibility of gingival hyperplasia in orthodontic patients.http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1013905219301099
