Summary:The purpose of the article is to reconstruct the primary stage of screenwriting and directing collaboration between Y. Solntseva and М. Viniarskyi during their work on the film «The Visun Republic» at Kyiv Film Studios (motion picture studios). The research methodology suggests the application of scientific reconstruction methods, objectivity, and historicism. The specified methodological approaches allow for recreating the picture of the cultural process based on contemporary records and defining historical and art preconditions of the emergence and problematics of screenwriting and directing collaboration between Yuliya Solntseva and Мykhailo Viniarskyi on the film «The Visun Republic» at Kyiv Film Studios (motion picture studios). Conclusions. Concluding the aforementioned, it can be stated that the scientific objectives have been accomplished: the specificity of the typical for cinematography of the second half of the 1930s phenomenon of a directing tandem has been studied; the reasons for the emergence of the screenwriting and directing tandem of Y. Solntseva and М. Viniarskyi have been analysed; the role and position of each participant of this creative tandem have been distinguished; variants of creative directing tandems in Ukrainian cinematography have been mentionеd. Nevertheless, the prospects for scientific research remain promising, as the further screenwriting and directing collaboration between Y. Solntseva and М. Viniarskyi on the film «How the Steel Was Tempered» has not been thoroughly researchеd. The significance of this research in terms of Art History lies within discovering and introducing the new important facts about Ukrainian and Soviet cinematography of the 1930s. Based on little-known contemporary records and published materials of that time, all the stages of screenwriting and directing collaboration between Y. Solntseva and М. Viniarskyi during their work on the film « The Visun Republic» at Kyiv Film Studios have been reconstructеd.
