Description
Summary:Recently obtained data have identified potential mechanisms linking D-endocrine system and blood pressure regulation. Vitamin D deficiency is associated with calcium metabolism disregulation, increased tonus of renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system, endothelial dysfunction, and metabolic syndrome development. The evidence presented suggests a possibility for developing a new, vitamin D-derived class of antihypertensive medications. This review discusses the mechanisms of arterial hypertension development which are related to vitamin D metabolism in humans.
