In Brazil the methods for science measurement follow international practices. On the other hand, there is also a concern regarded to the diversity of scientific subjects in order to avoid prejudice against non formal science areas. The present paper approaches the complexity in measuring science production by using international standard criteria. The study also offers an alternative technique which was based on the structure of the researcher form available at the Brazilian data base.
