Summary: | The aim in this study was to show, through mathematical modeling, that effluents can be used to generate biogas. The study was conducted in the state of Sergipe. The anaerobic digester used for the treatment of effluents was modeled as a batch bioreactor, interpreting the kinetic behavior with a Monod model. Two situations were considered in this study: an effluent that has low chemical oxygen demand (from 5.5 to 7.7 gO2 / L), and an effluent that has high COD (21.3 and 23.9 gO2 / L). The effluent with low COD produced 900 m3 to 1250 m3 of methane in 28 days, which made it possible to generate around 9963 to 13,837.5 kWh of energy, respectively. As for the wastewater with high COD, these values were higher – 6200 to 6600 m3 –, generating between 68,634 and 73,062 kWh in 28 days. The biogas obtained in the simulation could supply at least part of the energy expended by the companies, which is a viable alternative for Sergipe’s dairy industry. |
