Description
Summary:In order to satisfy the drinking water consumption, it is necessary to use the chemical substances during the water treatment processes. As a result, the optimisation of the chemicals used for coagulation and flocculation processes becomes as an important aspect in terms of public health and operation costs for drinking water treatment processes. The aim of this research was to investigate the optimisation of the chemical substances used during the potable water treatment. A special attention was given to optimise the chemicals used in water treatment plants for the city of Konya. For this, a number of tests were carried out by using jar-test apparatus in the laboratory. The water quality parameters investigated were pH, temperature and turbidity. As a result of this investigation, in order to decrease the influent turbidity below 5.0 NTU, 35.0 mg/L aluminium sulphate can be used as an optimum dosage. In addition, 15 % savings on the chemical substances costs can be achieved by the use of optimal dosages of the chemicals.
