Summary:The purpose of the article is to determine the peculiarities of the development of ancient hairstyle in the historical and artistic context of the evolution of world fashion as an important element of clothing and part of the person’s image. The article highlights the peculiarities of changes of traditional features of ancient hairstyles through different historical periods in accordance with the requirements of the time. The research methodology. To fulfill the research purpose, scientific-theoretical, art critical and methodical literature was analyzed. The following methods of scientific cognition were also used: problem-chronological, concrete-historical, statistical, descriptive, and logical-analytical. The scientific novelty of the work lies in the research into the invention of new techniques in hairdressing and the functioning of different styles, trends and tastes in modern hairstyling. Conclusions. In the process of historical development, the traditional features of ancient hairstyle as an important element of clothing constituting the person’s image have undergone transformation in accordance with the change of aesthetic ideals of specific historical periods - from antiquity to contemporaneity. Due to this fact, classic canons of beauty of hair and ways of its dressing have been changing in accordance with the requirements of the time, being constantly enriched and modified.
