Summary: | The rural areas in Ukraine, which are home to more than 30% of the population, occupy about 90% of the entire area of the country. The agricultural activity of the population remains the main source of its life support, while 55% of the rural population in the country carries out economic management on the personal household small size plots, without obtaining significant additional income. While producing a significant quantity of agricultural products in the country, individual rural households, in the absence of effective mechanisms to protect and support their activities, are not able to compete with agricultural enterprises, especially of medium and large size, and therefore they do not influence on the formation of markets for sales of their goods and services. Large agricultural holdings and agricultural companies control almost the entire market of sales of agricultural products both domestically and in terms of exports. Importance of formation of necessary institutional and economic base for functioning of separate territory (region, community, etc.), assessment of its condition with the purpose of further use in the public management of territorial development determines the importance of developing and implementing an efficient system of integrated development of both rural areas and agro-industrial sector in Ukraine to solve the socio-economic problems of the territories and stimulate their sustainable development. |
