Summary:The main objective of this paper is to understand some of the logics and interests that underpin the processes of elaborating and putting Operação Urbana Consorciada Butantã-Vila Sônia (OUCBVS) located in the western zone of the metropolis of São Paulo into practice. Claims and difficulties in accessing information on the urban project faced by the different groups of inhabitants of the comprehended area are to be detailed in this article. Bearing in mind the spatial segregation in the neighbourhoods of Butantã and Vila Sônia three locations ranging from high to low purchasing power of their inhabitants were selected for the analysis. The research attempted to articulate planning and actions carried out by the population of the three areas selected and the economic intentions which drive huge projects of urban intervention and renovation such as Operações Urbanas.
