We considered as main sources of textbooks booklets, paleographers, reading books, examining them according to their nature and social agents involved. These sources are complex objects, the result of a set of relationships. It was considered the concept of function (Choppin, 2004) to analyze the investment that was made in the period, to teach reading and writing in the light of these devices.
