Summary: | The renovation teaching movement known by Modern Mathematics arrived in Brazil in 1960s droved by reforms which have been happened in other countries. Before this, in the beginning of the twentieth century, manifestations on behalf of renovations of mathematics teaching have been happened in internationals congresses and continued in following years. Many of the claims and criticisms discussed in these congresses were the same of the 1950s congresses'. We can say that the discussions in these congresses gave an impulse to the beginning of Modern Mathematics Movement around the world and they established as a forum debates about Modern Mathematics. The aim of this paper is to take again some of the subjects of the main congresses along the twentieth century which provided an increasing of the debates about the teaching of mathematics, culminating on Modern Mathematics Movement. Moreover, we intend to discuss how were the first Brazilian congresses about mathematics teaching and their importance to the Modern Mathematics Movement. |
