Summary:Background and Aims: Quality of care is an important adjunct in the prevention of maternal morbidity and mortality in developing countries. The objective of this review was to assess components of maternal health care that have a bearing on quality of care. Source of materials for this article are from learned journals and reports on this subject. Conclusion: Quality of care in Obstetrics is a continuum that spans pre pregnancy period, pregnancy and the aftermath. Many parameters can be employed to define the quality of care received by women. The emphasis is however on the optimal utilization of the health system in providing the best possible care.
