Description
Summary:This paper is aimed at describing the pattern connective + comma as opening structure of an utterance. It is a sequence which is rather common in contemporary written Italian, but it has been neither described nor mentioned in the reference studies on punctuation yet. Starting from the quantitative corpus-based observation of the phenomenon, a qualitative analysis will be carried out and the textual functions of the pattern will be discussed and its linear counterpart will be presented to show differences in the information structure of the utterances linked by the connective.
