Description
Summary:This is a descriptive, quali/quantitative study, shaped as field study, whose objective is to describe the nursing team's procedures and justifications when the client's body is exposed while care is being provided, from the point of view of nursing professionals in a district health care unit in the city of Ribeirão Preto, São Paulo state, Brazil. The sample was comprised as follows: 84.8% nursing assistants, 6.1% nursing technicians and 9.1% nurses; 78.8% were aged between 30 and 50 years. The instruments most often used for protection were the screen (26.5%), the sheet (22.1%) and closed doors (13.3%). The reasons given for not using resources for protecting the body included lack of materials, emergency and urgency situations that demanded speed, and the inadequate physical structure at the health care unit. The study allowed for the analysis of client's body exposure and also key elements that are involved in nursing assistance, such as ethics, values, attitudes, interests and needs; which result from different ways of viewing others and are associated with respect for clients and how to dealing with them.
