Summary: | The Mouraria Neighborhood, in Lisbon, bears numerous memories. Though, from 2008, new residents produce and disseminate in the public space a new myth – the myth of the Arab Moorish ghetto –, which functions as leverage to the recent rehabilitation process of the area. At first, this new memory has destabilized the neighborhood and emphasized conflicting logics. Then, it integrated other memories elements and adjusted itself to this particular territory. The myth of the Moorish ghetto offers a response to new socio-spatial issues of the area. Its adaptability and flexibility makes it a plastic memory, which explains the ability of transformation and adaptation of the territories themselves.
