Summary: | The following article aims to highlight the importance of critical thinking for the development of the autonomy of learning in the students within the educational establishments of our country. From our experience of working with the school system, we observe the need and urgency to promote specific skills linked to critical thinking, such as systematic reflection, critical analysis, development of creativity, commitment to the task of thinking and sensitivity to the cultural and social context. Research in education suggests that in recent years educational processes have moved with minimal levels of achievement in the development of higher-order skills, such as critical thinking and autonomous learning. The evident problem that involves the implementation of curricula oriented towards an approach focused on the acquisition of knowledge, above the development of thinking skills that allow contextualizing, applying and operationalizing the content acquired, are some of the questions that we We will take care of this writing. With the understanding that, until we are able to transfer and apply knowledge to everyday life (the fundamental operation of critical thinking), the effort in education will be in vain. For this, we point out some proposals in the direction of raising new guiding standards that nurture the competition of critical thinking, such that it becomes operational at the school classroom level.
