It analyzed the influence of Capes’ evaluation criteria in the processes for production of knowledge in the epistemological field, with a theoretical base in Bourdieu’s concept of "field." A multiple case study was conducted in three graduate theology programs that received grades of 5 or better from Capes and which offer masters and doctoral courses, which were recognized by their churches -Catholic or Protestant- before their insertion in the Capes system. The methodology involved interviews and data collection from documents provided by Capes and the graduate programs. The research results indicate that the insertion in the Capes evaluation and support system required structural and epistemological changes from the graduate programs.http://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=71525769009
