Exercise is one of the easiest way to improve physical fitness and reduce risk of various diseases. Objective: To compare the effect of exercise by bicycle’s inner tube on physical fitness and balance in women with metabolic syndrome. Materials and methods: Fifty-one females, aged 30-50 years old, were divided into control (n=25) and exercise (n=26) group. All subjects were measured by six minute walk test (6MWT), grip strength, back strength, shoulder flexibility test, sit and reach, percentage of body fat, and time up and go (TUG) test before and after exercise by bicycle’s inner tube for 60 minute/day, 3 days/week and within 8 consecutive weeks. Results: It was found that scores of 6MWT distance, grip strength, back strength, shoulder flexibility, sit and reach, and TUG were significantly different between before and after exercise (p<0.05) within exercise group. Conclusion: Results from the study showed that exercise by bicycle’s inner tube can improve physical fitness and balance in women with metabolic syndrome.
