Description
Summary:One of the recent problems of science and practice is concerned with the sustainable development: economy, population, settlements, natural systems, ecological systems, environment and life in general. These questions are tightly connected with planning and organizing the area and space, and the planning of the sustainable development is only one of the factors of the system sustainability. It is obvious that the responsible relation with the environment includes a complete planning process and development, and that relation is the base of the sustainable development of tourism. The tendency of the increase and development of tourism as a global process shows that tourism is fast-growing industry which has a significant influence on national and global economic development. In that sense it is essential that the sustainable development of East Herzegovina is based on the planned directing of the main developing processes on the basis of the value of the tourist potentials with the aim to create the strategic goals and directions of the sustainable development in this area. East Herzegovina is a geographical part of the south east area of Republic of Srpska, which includes administrative and territorial units of Trebinje, Bileca, Ljubinje, Berkovici, Gacko, Nevesinje and East Mostar with 365 populated places and the area of 3, 827 square kilometers.
