The article discusses the history of the creation and activities of the Scientific Library, founded in 1919, the year of foundation of the prestigious center of education and science - Baku State University. The directions and methods of forming and packaging the library fund in the early years of the university. The activity of the Scientific Library of Baku State University was studied at the level of departments, reading rooms, funds (volume and composition), readers (number and contingent), and also as a methodological center. The work of the library on the integration of departments and branches for various faculties, the creation of a fund of rare books, a fund of publications of university employees, exhibitions, presentations of new books and magazines is considered. The issues of attracting volunteers to promote the book as a valuable source of information are considered. The article also provides information on the activities of the Azerbaijan Library and Information Consortium, created at the Scientific Library, on the work done to create an electronic catalog and electronic library. The prospects for the development of library services for readers in the development of information and communication technologies. The issues of coordinating the activities of libraries within the country and outside its borders on the exchange of information and other aspects of cooperation are considered.
