Summary:The article presents some problems concerning the style and musical aesthetic features of the Japanese composer Takemitsu. The piano music heritage of Toru Takemitsu is analysed in the context of his musicological and literal essays. Emphasis is also laid on a multitude of stylistic contexts of the composer’s creation, among which, alongside of the stylistics of the French composer O. Messiaen and the aesthetic „silence” of the American composer John Cage, are present the philosophy and artistic phenomena of the Japanese culture.
