<p>The typology of the alternative media of Germany in the historical context   from its origin in the 70-ies of the XXth century and to the present times is under the investigation in this article.</p><p>A variety of types of alternative media in Germany is caused by many factors - historical, political, economic, cultural - and  by the progressive development of society as well. Alternative media differ from other types of media in that way, that they are chosen by reader himself, what means that the interest and demand of the audience match the specifics of  the topical issues. The alternative press not just interprets events and problems and gives them an assessment, but in fact it becomes a member of the events itself and encourages the reader to act, or at least to form a personal point of view.</p>Specific features of online alternative sources of information are introduced and their connection to alternative print periodicals is found.
