Summary: | Objective: to know and analyze the conception of health professionals on users who abuse psychoactive substances. Methods: qualitative study carried out in 2009 with the participation of 11 health professionals at a Reference Center for Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs. Data analysis was performed using the hermeneutic-dialectic method guided by theoretical assumptions of the Brazilian Psychiatric Reform. Results: it indicates that assistance is aligned to the traditional psychiatric rehabilitation and adaptive models, linked to the logic of social normality, for the latent professionals have the idea that users of alcohol and other drugs have a disability and need guardianship, surveillance or repression, demonstrating the influence of the moral model. Final Considerations: the main challenge relates to the influence of the moral model in the design of health professionals when considering the psychosocial model of care in assistance to alcohol and other drugs.
