Description
Summary:This paper describes the technical process through which we can draw, in a practical way, a diagram representing a social network, starting from a huge historical database containing numerous information about social actors. To achieve this goal, we use two specific tools: the Fichoz database, and a software for network analysis, Pajek. In a first theoretical section, we describe a model of the process, the components we use and their role in the global process. A second section describes a practical case study, that is the methodology used to get a global image of the links the members of the three main Spanish academies maintained in the late 18 th century with the academies they belonged to, so as to determine a set of global leaders, members of all them and consequently able to steer the whole academic system.
