As a set of experiences, it can be analyzed from its material specificities that take place within its specific historical and geographical contexts, as well as a production process, which is perceived generically, thus becoming a social form of production. While this set of experiences connects with economic policies, it also does so with social policies, in which many architects have engaged in to help society develop. This article compares experiences (deemed exemplary) carried out in the São Paulo metropolitan region, to understand and overcome the limits faced by the production of housing complexes. This study provides a critical view of both the products as well as the forms of production and parties producing these housing complexes. It concludes that this form of construction faces limits imposed by capitalism - which juggles wages, profits, interest, and income - and by critical concepts of architectural thinking. If the difficulties are to be overcome, they must be tackled by all parties as a group.http://revistas.usp.br/posfau/article/view/43729Conjuntos habitacionais (Cecap Zezinho Magalhães Prado, Cohab Cidade Tiradentes Santa Etelvina, mutirão autogerido Copromo, CDHU Iguatemi, Parque do Gato e Cingapura Zaki Narchi)habitação e urbanização (aspectos políticos-socioeconômicos)indústria da construção civilprodução do espaço |

The housing complex is the result of a space production process that combines several agents interested in increasing their capital in a production process. This article compares experiences (deemed exemplary) carried out in the São Paulo metropolitan region, to understand and overcome the limits faced by the production of housing complexes.
