Partida da monção: modos de (re)ler o mito bandeirante

This paper seeks to analyze the principal interpretive writings about the canvas painting called Partida da Monção by Almeida Júnior, dating from 1897, prepared by the Paulista Museum of the University of São Paulo. In order to do this, we opted to accompany the critical writings, by the incipient Historic and Geographic Institute of São Paulo, provided for the principal circulators of Paulista (from the State of São Paulo) history, which affiliates the work of art to the expeditionary movement and its unfolding happenings, from the date of the painting’s confection and the first years of the second half of the XX century.
