Description
Summary:The construction of knowledge is a central problem of marine resources exploitation and conservation. Within the framework of the Common Fisheries Politicy (CFP) definition and implementation, the scientific evaluation of the halieutical resources evolution gives rise to controversies between fishermen and scientists, even between these last ones (biologists and economists of fisheries). The models at the base of the evaluation and the data-gathering roots and methods are principally debated. Without sufficing to reappraise the terms of this scientific expertise, the doubts expressed about the methodological reliability are food for thought on the uncertainties which inhere in it and the potential contribution of fishermen to the halieutical knowledge construction. Admittedly since the reform of the PCP in 2002, the European Commission (EC) has been recognizing the necessary participation of professionals, but restricted to a task: making scientific expertise more reliable and more legitimate.
