Summary: | The genus Alysicarpus Desv. of family Fabacaeae is distributed in the dry zones of Peninsular India, with 15 species and 7 varieties. A. naikianus Pokle, an endemic species, described in 1999 was only known from few localities. In recent surveys, a number of additional populations were found in Western India. Thereby, now known to be chiefly distributed along the eastern escarpments of Western Ghats and coastal plains of Kerala, Karnataka, Goa, Maharashtra and Gujarat. It is common, widespread and fairly abundant and found along road sides, on grazing grounds, in open, dry and waste places. |
