The present paper is part of the exploration stage in the process of construction of the object of study. Therefore, instead research results we suggest an exercise of reflection about the region and the elite interests us address. In the first section we present an overview of the studies that have been conducted on Pamplona in historiography. We want to focus on the way the town has been addressed in the context of a historical region energized by social connections favored, in turn, by the fluvial routes. Second, we make a brief overview of the socioeconomic configuration of Pamplona‟s elite along the colonial period. Finally, we address the relationship between Pamplona and estates in San Jose de Cucuta as producer enclave on the route of the cocoa.
