Description
Summary:The design of PET/CT center at Institute of Oncology and Radiobiology, Havana, Cuba is presented. The structural shielding requirements were performed according to the methodology described by AAPM Task Group 108: “PET and PET/CT shielding requirements” taking into account the occupation factors from NCRP-147: “Structural shielding design for medical imaging X-ray facilities” as well as the dose restrictions established by the Cuban Nuclear Regulatory Body for Nuclear Medicine practice. The design of facilities took into consideration the current recommendations of the European Guidance on good manufacturing practices for small-scale preparation of radiopharmaceuticals. The proposed design satisfi es the functional standards of PET/CT centers according to the international practice and the results of structural shielding calculations warrant exposition levels for public and occupational workers according to the current radiation protection regulations.
