Summary: | In the emergency room context, the risk as - sessment prevails, and in the case of psychiatric emergencies, besides the patient’s life-threatening risk, it is necessary to ensure the security and inte - grity of relatives, other patients, careers and loca - tions, becoming primordial the assessment of the patient’s risk of violence. Even though the concept of risk of violence, before “dangerousness”, is most commonly used in forensic environments and judicial establishments, becomes important in the initial assessment of the psychiatric patient in the emergency room in order to define diag - nosis, treatment and to reduce the social impact that brings violent behavior. The technology used in the assessment of risk of violence has grea - ter predictive ability of future violent behavior, which achieved with dangerousness assessment. In this article are introduced the fundaments in assessment of risk of violence techniques and the instruments adapted to Spanish language for use in the daily psychiatric practice and not only the emergency one. Here are briefly described VRAG, PCL-R, HCR-20, SVR-20, SARA and SAVRY scales and their specific applications. |
