Data on prevalence of blindness due to cataract, as well as a structure of reasons of blindness and visual impairment was obtained. Thus, 75% of blindness and 88% of visual impairment are avoidable.Conclusion. Cataract is a single main cause of blindness. The number of the cases of non operated cataract exceeds the already operated cases 2-2.5 times.
