The sample was selected form the clinical nurses in Charge of the hospitals of the Iran Medical Sciences University. Hundred nurses were selected randomly.   They were all involved with clinical care of patients.   The instrument for data gathering was a questionnaire which Consisted of two parts: First portion concerning demographic characteristics and second, concerning statements addressing the problems of patient teaching to the participants part. (The First part included nine statements, the second part fifteen and the third part four questions).   The data was gathered in 34 tables, for analysis of data descriptive and analytic statistics were employed.   Results of this study indicated that the major part of the study sub.iects were 25-29 years old, female, married, has B.S. and M.S. degree in nursing, over five years of l:linical service, working in the intensive care units, with 1-5 years service in their present ward and working on shift rotation.   Also findings showed that lack of knowledge, and teaching skills, administrative support, and having not enough time for teaching, were the most important problems of patient teaching in each of the three levels. Chi square and the exact Fisher test showed no relationship between demographic characteristics and subjects' views.   Finally in answer to the research question, paused in this study majority of the subjects agreed with the significance of the problems existed in patient teaching. Finally, applications and recommendations were made and future studies were suggested.http://ijn.iums.ac.ir/article-1-1404-en.html
