Summary:The article considers some aspects of the concept of Name by Fr. P. Florensky in connection with controversy about onomatodoxy in the early 20th century. The author pays close attention to Florensky’s comprehension of Name as substantional reality and as symbol and to his idea “that every act of appearance of Name of God is act of sinergy, i.e. interaction of heavenly and human energy”. In the author’s opinion, Florensky’s philosophical studies of this question were based not so on the orthodox theology, as on the “universal worldview”, which he reconstructed during his study of ancient religions. His original theory supporting and developing onomatodoxy became a result of this
