Summary:The paper deals with the use of a synergistic approach as a methodological basis for improving the system of educational work with the personnel of the penal system. The system of education of the staff of the Federal penitentiary service of Russia can be considered from the positions of synergetics due to its complexity, multifactorial character, openness, disorder, irregularity, instability on the one hand, and on the other hand as having the ability for selforganization, which allows using synergy as a methodological basis for improving the system of educational work with the penal system staff at the present stage of reforming the penitentiary system of Russia.
