Description
Summary:This work provides a comparative analysis of Argentina and Brazil’s foreign policy based on the Kirchner-Macri and Rousseff-Temer changes of government. Although there are differences between them, these governments have driven a rhetorical and practical transformation in the countries’ outwards orientation, proposing, in contrast to their predecessors, a strategy that combines greater rapprochement with the US, increased trade openness, and a prerogative for insertion into global value chains. Nevertheless, the growing impugnation of the globalization process —expressed by phenomena such as Brexit and the victory of Donald Trump— would call to question the liberalization policies leading to new dilemmas in Itamaraty and Palacio San Martín.
