Surgery as the second line of therapy is considered for patients who are intolerant to medications, but response rates continue to remain suboptimal and it is necessary to assess environmental factors such as diet that may not only help improve response to conventional therapy. Many patients with IBD reported that diet can affect the disease symptoms, employing avoidance diets while in remission.
