Description
Summary:The article analyzes how, under the influence of nationalists and Marxists theses of the period, the cinema novo young filmmakers sought, from the late 1950, to develop a kind of interventionist cinema, which would represent, with a critical viewpoint, the daily lives of disadvantaged Brazilians with the aim to awaken their critical consciousness. The article shows how, in their search for films whose content and form were authentically Brazilian and in clear opposition to the American commercial cinema, the filmmakers were taken to build popular culture ideologically.
