Comparison of Risk Categorization Methods in a Multisimulation Framework

In this article, we discuss various methods for risk categorization. We consider a statistical decision theory-based method, risk matrices, derivation of the risk acceptance level from fire data, and a comparative study. Description
Summary:In this article, we discuss various methods for risk categorization. We consider a statistical decision theory-based method, risk matrices, derivation of the risk acceptance level from fire data, and a comparative study. The values of risk used in the categorization process derive from multisimulation - a probabilistic fire risk assessment method. Following the theoretical description of the methods, a case study of a five story hotel building 20.000 m2 is elaborated and discussed as proof of concept. Based on the case study we reveal the shortcomings of the methods compared.
