Summary: | This study aimed at investigating the effect of radiating Clerodendrum volubile leaves with the UV-C light on the bioactive composition, antioxidant, and inhibitory capacities of C. volubile leaves. The leaves were divided into three parts; one part was treated with UV-C lamp at wavelength 210 nm for 10 min (UV-C 10), the second part for 20 min (UV-C 20) while the last part left untreated. The aqueous extracts of UV-C radiated C. volubile was used for the analysis. UV-C 20 sample exhibited higher levels of total phenolics (84.9 mgGAE/g), total flavonoids (36 mgQE/g) and phosphomolybdate (47.33 mgAAE/g). The untreated sample had a significantly (p < 0.05) higher value of ascorbic acid. UV-C irradiation caused an increase in the scavenging and inhibiting abilities of C. volubile with UV-C 20 exhibiting a higher DPPH and hydrogen peroxide scavenging abilities, also the higher inhibitory effect on α-amylase, α-glucosidase enzyme and Fe2+ induced lipid peroxidation in vitro.
