Jean-Luc Lagarce’s (1957-1995) Journal, practically unstudied until now, represents a unique writing within the constraints of the author’s creation as far as within the constraints of French literature of the late XXth century. Jean-Luc Lagarce himself considered his Journal to be the most significant writing among all his works. The two volumes 1977-1990 and 1990-1995 of the Journal bring into the world a particular literary experience: it is a heterogeneous and complex writing containing a detailed personal story full of poetic inventions based on a balanced association of all the existing literary forms including intimate diary, novel, collection of short stories, theatrical play, reviews, author’s draft, collection of quotes, screenplay and even a storyboard.
