Description
Summary:The authors discuss the cooperation between computer sciences and classical and ancient studies at the University Erlangen-Nuremberg, giving insight into the methodology of digital visualization. Focal point of their explanations are the diggings and surveys in the area surrounding the ancient city Metropolis in present-day Turkey. The authors introduce possible types of scanning (structured light scanning, infrared-technique) and elaborate on their advantages and disadvantages. Finally, they present the incorporation of the compiled data into the Epigraphical Database Erlangen-Nürnberg (EDEN) and show future perspectives for involving the humanities – research and teaching – as well as computer sciences.
