Summary: | The reliability of a system is generally done by a functional analysis (FA), whose mission is to provide a deep understanding of the object to be designed, to discover all the valuable solutions, modes, and configurations, and finally to choose the best options for the system’s design. Functional analysis is then matched with a dysfunctional analysis, such as Failure Modes and Effects Analysis, to foresee and take measures to avoid the possible dysfunctionalities of the system and to determine the most suitable model. In this paper, the functional analysis diagram (FAD) is used in the conceptual phase of the design process of a Flux Modulated Magnetic Gear.
