Description
Summary:This article seeks to measure the effectiveness of the French state’s employment policies, in particular its Job Centre units. By describing the datasets that France’s Ministry of Labour compiles and shares with each employment advisor, it tries to explain the more poignant aspects of the treatment meted out to the unemployed. More specifically, the modalities by means of which individual are deemed employable will be analysed here as one consequence of the pressure caused by certain performance indicators. What then arises is a latent contradiction between the Job Centre’s commitment to combat unemployment and the dearth of job offers it receives on a daily basis.
