The Whitney possesses the world’s largest collection of American art and focuses on exhibiting living artists. Spectacular, industrial in character architecture signed by Renzo Piano has met with mixed reactions. The building is functional and well connected with the post-industrial site, however, not appreciated by everyone. Similar situation happened forty years ago, when Centre of Georges Pompidou, designed by Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers, pioneers of high-tech architecture, was widely criticised. Only popularity, high attendance and commercial success of famous Paris facility changed that negative opinion.
